THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION IN THE "HOLY" (Gk. "HAGIOS") PLACE (Matt. 24:15) or "TEMPLE/DWELLING OF [A] GOD" (2 Thess. 2:4) a.k.a. "THE IMAGE OF THE BEAST" (Rev. 13:14): schools/universities, temples/churches, museums, etc.
-this could mean the abomination that "causes" desolation of God's Spirit- i.e. that causes God to withdraw His Spirit from a place
-foreshadowing of this in the Bible: the 60-cubit high & 6 cubits broad golden statue, set up in the plain of Dura, of Nebuchadnezzar the King of the Babylonian Empire: if a person refused to worship it, he was thrown into a burning fiery furnace (Daniel 3:1-8)
-the Greek word "hagios" was also applied to things set apart for the pagan gods, which according to the Bible are demons! (ex. Deuteronomy 32:17, 1 Cor. 10:19: Paul says the Corinthian Greeks "sacrificed to demons") Therefore, the following statues & paintings among many others are types of the "abomination of desolation" & "holy place" mentioned in Matt. 24:15, for they are all images of demons or of demonically-possessed types of the Antichrist:
---The Statue of Athena (now gone) in the Parthenon of Athens, Newton's statue in Trinity College in U.K., "The Death of Socrates" in the Metropolitan Museum (i.e. "temple of the Muses," Greek gods who according to the Bible are demons) of NYC, The "Mona Lisa" [which contains an image of a demon] in the Louvre Museum, Islam's Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem where the holy temple used to be, etc.
Therefore, many schools/colleges/universities (most of which break the rule "whatsoever you do...do it for the glory of God" [1 Cor. 10:31], and many or all of which contain "images of the beast" in the form of statues, paintings, etc.; and which are each called "alma mater," or "nourishing mother," after the mother goddess of pagan religions which according to the Bible is a demon), museums (where paintings & sculptures are worshipped in place of God), homes (where Christmas trees, dogs, etc. are worshipped [i.e. exceedingly admired] in place of God), religious temples (which contain statues of the Buddha & other "gods"), churches/cathedrals which contain statues of the Virgin Mary & other "saints", and more are "dwellings of demons," who like the insects are everywhere. After all, as many as 50% of Christian students say they have lost their faith as a result of four years in college; college professors 5 times more likely to be atheists than general public [1 Cor. 1 warns about how knowledge "puffs up"] How shocking! No wonder the only verse in the whole Bible, I think, which says in parentheses to the reader "understand what this means" is Matthew 24:15! Look at what is most commonly studied in high schools across America, including St. Mary's in NY I attended, St. Paul's School in NH I taught Great Books at in their "Advanced Studies Program" during summer 2007, & Hobgood Academy in NC I taught English at in fall 2007: Homer's Odyssey, Sophocles's Antigone & Oedipus, Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, & Hamlet, the three conic sections & other things in vain geometry; Newton's calculus; light, energy, & the three principal parts of the atom, Newton, Einstein, etc. in physics classes; U.S. presidents in history classes; etc. etc., all worshipped in place of Jesus. Paul was not joking when he said "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)
The "holy place" during the time of the Great Tribulation might be a 3rd Temple of Jerusalem (which many Jews are planning to build), since Jesus urges "those in Judea to flee" when the "abomination" is in the "holy place" (Matt. 24:15-16, Luke 21), since the word "temple" is used by Paul to describe the "holy place," and since the only thing mentioned explictly in the Bible as a type of the "abomination" is set up in the 2nd Temple of Jerusalem by Antiochus Epiphanes (Daniel 11:31). In the Luke 21 parallel passage, Jesus urges "those in Judea to flee" when "armies surround Jerusalem" (Gk. "ierosalem": "iero" means holy). Is Judea in these passages literal or metaphoric? Since I have no reason to think it is metaphoric, I will assume it is literal, for now at least. The parallel passage in Ezekiel 38 too seems to pretty clearly mean that the literal city of Jerusalem will be surrounded by armies, for in Ezekiel 37 God talks about reuniting Israel with Judah in the future, as happened astoundingly in 1948 hundreds of years over two-thousand years after this prophecy! Even in this case, though, that does not mean that the "holy place" is in Judea or even in Jerusalem, for the people in Judea could still see the abomination in the holy place by means of the television if the holy place were outside Jerusalem.
All churches that use modern translations are types of "the holy place" in which the abomination stands. I strongly advise reading the King James Version of the Bible ONLY or in conjunction with the original Greek & Hebrew texts as I do (a few of the translations of the New Testament above are my own from the original Greek, but they're mostly copied & pasted from the KJV). I know Ancient Greek very well, being Greek myself, and I can thoroughly vouch for the following discoveries others have made which I have thoroughly checked up on:
-Some of the most disturbing additions/changes/omissions in the modern translations NIV, NASB, NKJV, NLT, etc.: Jesus' title of "Lord" (Matt. 13:51) & "THE Son of God" (Dan. 3:25, Mark 1:1, Matt. 27:54); references to Jesus being worshipped (Matt. 18:26); and many many more (another page documenting these changes), THOUSANDS of instances of words omitted including very important ones like "Lord" & "hell", other ways in which the new translations attack the deity of Jesus
---"God is NOT the author of confusion" (1 Cor. 14:33): the context of this passage is talking about not having everyone speak at once (14:27,31); this verse implies that Satan, who consistently produces things like Santa which will be "like the Most High", rather than God is the author of these many Bible translations
---"If any man shall TAKE AWAY from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:19 NASV committee member trembles because of his involvement with the translation "Do not ADD unto His World, lest He reprove thee, and thou be called a liar." (Proverbs 30:6) "Ye shall not ADD unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye DIMINISH ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you." (Deuteronomy 4:2)
